In mid-July the Exmoor section of the King Charles III England Coast Path was officially unveiled. This new national coast path spans the entire coastline of England, linking existing coast paths to create a new continuous route with improved public access.
As part of this project, Exmoor’s existing coastal path has been updated and enhanced, with several route changes made so you can take in more scenic viewpoints and walk refined ancient paths. The revamped 35-mile stretch now hugs the coastline more closely, offering better views and reducing the time spent on roads. The path runs from Combe Martin in Devon through to Minehead in Somerset, providing walkers with stunning vistas along the way like Great Hangman – the highest sea cliff in England and Wales. At low tide, fossilised remains of an ancient submarine forest can be seen just to the west of Porlock Bay, where wooden stumps have petrified and turned to stone.
Exmoor National Park
We are incredibly fortunate to be so close to Exmoor and its glorious coastline, making our estate the perfect base for exploring both the wilds of Exmoor and the sandy beaches of North Devon. From the northern point of our estate, you can overlook the national park and enjoy a great spot for watching majestic red deer, which often wander into our woods. We’re eager to experience the newly improved coastal path ourselves – the spectacular views make the hike up the hills well worth the effort!
This exciting update ties in with the 70th anniversary of Exmoor National Park, which will be celebrated on 19th October – ‘Exmoor Day’. Events haven’t yet been publicised but we’re keeping a watch out for some fun celebrations!
