Water water everywhere!!
The River Yeo became just a little wider last week
The River Yeo became just a little wider last week with the constant heavy rain over the preceding days.
No harm was done other than one rather embarrassed shooting guest who discovered that his Aston Martin didnt float too well!!
RIP John
It was with great sadness that we lost a long serving colleague and friend at the weekend following his long battle with cancer.
It was with great sadness that we lost a long serving colleague and friend at the weekend following his long battle with cancer.
One of the most even tempered and cheerful individuals that you could ever wish to meet John was a key member of the shoot and had been part of the team from 2009.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to John and our sincere best wishes go out to his wife and family at this difficult time.
Flying on
Time as always seems to have flown
Time as always seems to have flown and we're now over a month into our shooting season. As all game shooters are aware this is not proving to be the easiest of seasons for many shoots and the Exmoor area is having a perticularly rough time. Typically too the warmer weather and still sunny days are not the best for shooting but al fresco dining (increasingly chosen by teams of guns as opposed to a full sit down lunch) is enhanced by some wonderful views and scenery highlighting the beauty of our North Devon countryside.
We are now hoping for some colder weather and those spectacular frosty mornings more typical of our winters.
A time of change
A time of sadness and of celebration
Rejoicing in one who led our nation
Honour, faith and duty measured
A time of sadness and of celebration
Ongoing Project
Hanging double gates on a slope with lots of varying levels inside and outside the field is always a callenge so we were delighted to have completed the replacement of the two gates at our last double gated field.
Hanging double gates on a slope with lots of varying levels inside and outside the field is always a challenge so we were delighted to have completed the replacement of the two gates at our last double gated field. The compensation today was the brilliant weather and the wonderful views of Exmoor beyond. Duly coated with lashings of proper creosote the gate is now ready for action and, with the recent rain after a long dry patch, there’s even some grass coming for the cows to eat!
Winter Bedding
Beautiful clear blue skies formed the backdrop of our straw bailing and gathering operations today.
Beautiful clear blue skies formed the backdrop of our straw bailing and gathering operations today. The straw barn is now full to bursting and our silage, made earlier in the summer, ensure that we’re now ready for whatever the winter throws at us. The decks are now cleared to allow us to begin refencing a number of fields.
